Church Life

St Mary with St George is an inclusive church, welcoming people of Christian faith, those who are seeking faith and those who doubt. We believe that through worship, prayer, study and discussion, fellowship and mutual support, we will grow in understanding and in trust. We are always delighted to have newcomers join us, for one service or hopefully for much longer.

We believe in embracing all gifts in the service of God. So we encourage members of our congregation to take one or more roles within the functioning of the church. As Paul said in his letter to the Corinthians: “there are varieties of service, but the same Lord; and there are varieties of activities, but it is the same God who activates all of them in everyone.”

We are chaplains to the North London YMCA hostel, and take part in a local Night Shelter for the Homeless, also volunteering at the local food bank; we work very closely with our church primary school; have a programme of outreach work with older people; have a very active ministry through performing arts; we outreach to young children and their parents through Noah’s Ark; we host a weekly church youth group; we make our extensive spaces available to the community; we offer spiritual support and guidance through a cycle of study and reflection groups throughout the year, and seek to help deepen our spirituality through an annual Week of Accompanied Prayer, weekend retreat and weekly contemplative prayer group.

We are a lively community of all ages. We come together to worship God and to spread the good news to others. We pray that by God’s guidance and love we will grow in faith, numbers and unity.
