For the best part of forty years, Hornsey Parish Church has had a second-hand bookshop has beneath its church hall.
Over the years, this has become an important, almost essential, part of community life in the roads around Cranley Gardens. A team of 8 to 10 volunteers open the shop on the first and third Saturday of each month, running from 10.00 – 1.00pm, in addition to which we are trying to keep the bookshop open slightly longer on the first Saturday of the month, to coincide with the Vintage Market.
The bookshop is also often open on Tuesdays and Fridays while we are sorting through donations and changing the stock.
The scope of the bookshop is extraordinary. Somehow it has accumulated over the years a much wider collection of books than you might find in your usual high street charity shop. There are for example a wide variety of books in different languages, a large history section, travel books, 20th century novels, textbooks, a huge fiction department and also a large children’s section.
If you would like to come and work in the bookshop, either when the shop is open on Saturdays or during the week, please email firstname.lastname@example.org.
Books can be donated to the shop when we are open, but they can also be left outside the church room door when we are not open, in the large box provided. Or you can email email@example.com.
All proceeds support the mission of our church.
